MHIN is among the first HIEs to achieve full accreditation with the Health Information Exchange Accreditation Program (HIEAP) from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). EHNAC’s HIEAP accreditation recognizes excellence in health information exchange and data processing, and ensures compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA regulations.
July, 2011 - ISMA investigates Indiana state HIEs with Positive Results
This week, the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) released an article in response to a national HIE study that stated the journey to electronically exchanging clinical information is slow-moving. Indiana, ISMA says, is “the exception.” As the most mature HIE in the State of Indiana, MHIN continues to push the boundaries for clinical exchange.
July, 2011 - Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Recognized as 2011 Most Wired Hospital by AHA
This week, American Hospital Association has awarded one of MHIN's founding owners, the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), as one of the "Most Wired" hospital in the United States. The nation's Most Wired hospitals are making progress towards greater health information technology (IT) adoption, according to Hospitals & Health Networks' 2011 Most Wired Survey released recently. MHIN continues to work with SJRMC in support of their ambulatory EHR and HIE connectivity needs. This recognition marks a significant accomplishment for SJRMC and the region it serves.
June, 2011 - MHIN Featured as National Model for Sustainability
In a follow up report to two national 2011 studies on sustainable models of health information exchange (HIE), FierceHealthIT has featured the Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN) as the national example of attainable sustainability for an HIE. In response to questions raised by the two national studies performed respectively by Harvard University and the eHealth Initiative, the FierceHealthIT article outlines MHIN's best practices, business techniques, and historic 11-year development in the region as factors in this HIE's rare success.

March, 2011 - MHIN Partners with Indiana State Department of Health to Implement Live Interface with CHIRP
Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN), in collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), announces the first successful live interface connectivity between an Indiana-based health information organization (HIO) and the Children and Hoosiers Immunization Registry Program (CHIRP). As a result of this new statewide connection, MHIN will facilitate the critical communication of child immunization records between the patient's physician and the statewide registry bringing an overall quality improvement of public health to the state.
CHIRP is Indiana's confidential and secure, internet-based immunization registry operated by the Immunization Program of the ISDH. A statewide system, CHIRP is designed to help Indiana patients and doctors keep track of their children's immunization records in order to ensure that patients receive the necessary immunizations throughout the course of their lives.

Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN) announces partnership today with Sturgis Hospital in Sturgis, Michigan for comprehensive health information exchange (HIE) services. As a result of the new partnership, the HIE platform will be used by physicians and clinical staff across the community to share patient records instantly, securely, and accurately, furthering the hospital's goal to reduce costs and improve quality of care. The new relationship further expands the growth of the region's multi-state health exchange.
Recently rated a Top 100 Hospital, Sturgis Hospital, an acute care facility located just north of the Michigan-Indiana border employs and partners with physicians across the community. As a result of new healthcare legislation, hospitals are working towards achieving the Meaningful Use requirements that were recently finalized through the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC). As a crucial component of the new partnership, MHIN will provide the necessary resources to help Sturgis connect to an HIE and fulfill these requirements. For Sturgis, achieving Meaningful Use means partnering with MHIN to ensure their patients' data will be appropriately accessible to providers in the community.

This week, MHIN announces a new partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine in South Bend. The new academic partnership will mean an enhanced educational curriculum that focuses specifically on the role and significance of health information exchange (HIE) and electronic health records (EHR) in modern health care for students training to be medical professionals.
Building the new curriculum is a crucial step in bridging the gap between modernized health information technology innovations that are rapidly changing the way the healthcare industry functions and the inherent lack of familiarity healthcare providers-both new and old-have with these innovations purely based on their novelty. It is becoming increasingly apparent to medical schools like IU that integrating instruction on how to use an HIE and EHR into medical school is essential to preparing medical students to practice modern health care.

May, 2010 - MHIN Partners with Elkhart General Healthcare System
MHIN announces its partnership with Elkhart General Healthcare System to bring health information exchange (HIE) services to the Elkhart medical community. As a result of the new partnership, doctors can now receive electronic copies of medical records and laboratory results from Elkhart General Hospital (EGH) instantly and securely. Additionally the HIE platform may be used by doctors across the community to share patient records with each other more quickly. Ultimately this partnership means improved patient care through a more coordinated and streamlined transfer of patient information.
"The association with MHIN has many huge benefits for Elkhart General Hospital, our medical staff, and our patients. The real time results of lab testing, radiology results and hospital documents are sent to the physician's computer, and that means the results are known to the physician immediately and in the patient's electronic medical record. There will be less duplication of tests as physicians have access to the patient's record electronically. This is particularly helpful in the emergency department," said Dr. Mark Sandock, Physician Consultant at Elkhart General Hospital.
